About the farmer & start-up farm
Hello there! I'm Paul Phillip Meyer the owner-operator of the Virginia Vegetable Company LLC. a new micro farm operation in Powhatan, VA. As a farmer my job can get complicated, but I keep it pretty simple: Grow quality organic produce for only my local community within 30 miles of my farm operation. This primarily includes Powhatan, Midlothian, Bon Air, and Forest Hill.
I grow for up to 100 families each year. I'm completely satisfied with my honest income and would rather help another small farmer grow for another 100 families of their own than expand into some gigantic stressful operation. Small for me is simple and simple makes me happy as a farmer.
I don't have many employees or farm workers. It's usually just a few people planning, growing, harvesting, and delivering everything! So if you email or call you'll directly hear back from me and I want to keep it that way to build a solid relationship with my customers.
Paul Phillip Meyer, our founder, holds a AS, BA, MBA, and MLitt. After many years of school and a long year unemployed then underemployed he decided to go on a long road trip to see first hand how new innovative sustainable farms were growing. During that time he had numerous car repair bills and met really awesome farmers thinking differently. He volunteered for Viridis Aquaponics in Watsonville, California, Bright Agrotech in Laramie, Wyoming, and The Urban Farming Guys in Kansas City, Missouri. His start-up Virginia Vegetable Company was born after he got sick of 2nd, 3rd, and forth interviews when he got back from his trip. He turned down a Multimedia Director position at a prestigious university and the next day registered his LLC. He is a volunteer with Virginia State University's programs such as Randolph Farm, and a member of Virginia Biological Farming Association.
Paul is a U.S. Coast Guard veteran. He enjoyed his sea time aboard the Rush. A proud native Virginian and current resident of the south Richmond city area, but brought up in Virginia Beach, VA. An avid surfer and outdoors man is his favorite activities when he gets a few days off.
